Brian and Bobbie Houston’s daughter, son-in-law announce new church

Brian and Bobbie Houston’s daughter and son-in-law, Peter and Laura Toganivalu, have announced they are launching a new church.

The couple, who resigned from their roles at Hillsong in May, made the announcement on Instagram. While details of the church at this stage have not been revealed, they have confirmed the church will be based in Sydney.

“We love His church. Past, present… aaaand (sic) future. We filmed some late night talkin’. Turn the sound up, hear our hearts & stay tuned for more details in the weeks & months to come. We’re planting a new church. Much love. Pete & Laura,” they stated on Instagram.

Known as Laura and Peter Toggs, the couple were seen as the long-term senior pastors and replacements at Hillsong once Brian and Bobbie would have stepped down, had they still been employed.

However, with the resignation of Brian in March 2022, followed closely behind by Bobbie’s exit from the megachurch, the young couple’s future at the church immediately had a question mark next to it.

In a statement and video posted on Instagram in May, Laura stated: “We thought we would share a video from Sunday in case friends may have missed it, it’s a big step for us Toggsys so we wanted to update our loved ones.

“Both of us have been in our church for as long as we can remember & our affection remains for the people, places & experiences that have made an indelible mark upon our hearts. We will forever be grateful & will always call the people that we’ve shared so much life & ministry with “family”. Thank u @hillsong church.”

The young couple were placed in a difficult position. Brian Houston himself has stated in the past that his resignation from the church has been hard on his daughter and her husband, whose vision was to take over the church.

It remains to be seen where the church will be based, but one would assume that it would be close to Hillsong’s main Baulkham Hillls mega-complex, which is located within the Hills District.

Many people have reportedly left the church and remain loyal to the Houstons, so they will no doubt have a ready-made congregation.

Brian and Bobbie Houston were naturally delighted with the news of the new church, which will no doubt be their church home, assuming they continue to reside in Australia.

“I’M IN. SEE YOU THERE!!” was Brian’s response, while Bobbie stated: “Watched again. So so proud of you! Cheers, cheers and more cheers!!!”
