New audio has surfaced revealing that sacked Hillsong New York City pastor Carl Lentz may have had more than one affair.
The celebrity pastor, who counted the likes of Justin and Hailey Bieber as his friends, was sensationally fired last month after compromising messages were found on his work computer, leading to news that he had been in a five-month affair with New York woman, Ranin Karim.
However, there are reports that there may have been multiple affairs. In leaked audio obtained by Page Six, a meeting of senior members, including Global Senior Pastor Brian Houston, alleges that the 42 year-old may have had “more than one affair.”
“A staff member found a very compromising chain of text messages on Carl’s laptop,” one of the church leadership said. “We drove right across town to talk to Carl and confront him and that was the beginning of the process we are at now.”
“When we talk about an affair: these issues were more than one affair, they were significant and at least some bad moral behavior had gone back historically, but not necessarily those affairs,” Brian Houston stated in the audio.
“If it was just about a moral failure perhaps it would have been possible to work our way through it and have a period of restoration, but the nature of where my relationship was with Carl already and then add the significant nature of the moral issues meant that I believed and our global board believed the only option was to terminate Carl.”
Pastor Houston went on to state that there were other issues in dealing with the celebrity pastor. “They were not easy meetings and I already at the point at the end of summer that I felt like Carl and Laura’s time in New York was coming to an end,” Houston said. “Not just general narcissistic behavior, manipulating, mistreating people. I think sometimes other hurtful things, the breaches of trust connected to lying, constantly lying, basically, broken trust.”
It is believed the Lentzs have moved to Los Angeles after selling their New Jersey home shortly before the pastor’s sacking.
Brian Houston has also promised to launch an independent investigation into Hillsong New York City.
