‘Depression and burnout’ sees Carl Lentz reportedly in rehab

Former Hillsong New York City pastor Carl Lentz has reportedly entered rehab amid challenges to get his life and marriage back on track.

Lentz, who was fired last month after emails and texts confirmed he was having an affair, is now residing in Los Angles as he tries to mend his marriage.

A source has told PEOPLE magazine: “He wants to be better for his family and is dedicated to doing the work. His family is supporting him and hopes their privacy will be respected on this journey.

“He has no ill will towards the church and recognizes that they needed to take some course of action to address his missteps.”

The pastor to stars like Justin and Hailey Bieber had his position terminated and an email was sent to East Coast members of Hillsong outlining his sacking.

“Today Hillsong Church East Coast advised our congregation that we have terminated the employment of Pastor Carl Lentz,” Global Senior Pastor Brian Houston said in an email to church members last month. “This action has been taken following ongoing discussions in relation to leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.

“This action was not taken lightly and was done in the best interests of everyone, including Pastor Carl.

“While I have no doubt that this is the right course of action, I must mention Bobbie’s and my personal sadness, as we have known Laura her entire life and Carl for well over 20 year.

“We thank Pastors Carl and Laura for the way they have served faithfully and sacrificially since the start of Hillsong NYC and for contributing so significantly to the countless lives that have been transformed for Jesus Christ through this ministry.”

Lentz is now facing accusations that there may have been multiple affairs, putting further strain on his marriage as he and his pastor wife, Laura, try to start again.

Meanwhile, Page Six is reporting that Hillsong knew about the disgraced pastor’s sexual misconduct as far back as 2017.

According to Page Six, an alleged former church member, using the Twitter handle @aurora_divva, tweeted about an alleged 2017 Hillsong NY scandal where a church member accused Lentz of inappropriate sexual behavior.

She says this was covered up by church staff. She tweeted: “While Carl Lentz messed up, I have no issues with him and I’m praying for him and his family. It’s the pastors that handled the whole incident that need to be fired for real. Cos all this could’ve stopped or handled back then.”
