Sound of Freedom is continuing to make waves through Hollywood, bringing in $100 million at the box office.
The movie has grossed more than $100 million in the box office in less than three weeks, a staggering number for a film produced by a Christian studio.
The head of theatrical distribution for Angel Studios, Brandon Purdie, said in a press release, “There have only been 10 wide-release movies in box office history that have had a second-weekend increase greater than 35% over their opening weekend.
“All of them achieved this milestone during Christmas. Angel Studios is the only studio to accomplish this feat during the summer blockbuster season with ‘Sound of Freedom.’”
Jared Geesey, the senior vice president of global distribution at Angel Studios added, “While the entire summer movie box office lineup is underperforming, our small independent film continues to grow week over week. Driven by millions of fans and supporters, ‘Sound of Freedom’ has become a national — and soon international — movement for change.”
Based upon the true story of former government agent Tim Ballard, who quit his job to rescue a little girl from sex traffickers in the Colombian jungle, the film is touching a nerve with people. exposing the tragedy of human trafficking in the process.
At a time when Los Angeles and its glamorous film industry is at a stand still over actors’ pay, the Christian film industry, which is not controlled by unions, continues uninhibited. The Chosen is in the middle of filming and has been allowed to keep shooting, even though Hollywood has stopped production.
The unions and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has been unable to stop production, given the actors are not tied to the unions.
Former U.S. government agent Tim Ballard, founder of Operation Underground Railroad, pulls back the curtain on the real-life stories that inspired Sound of Freedom in the video below.
The “only way” Ballard said he can deal with the dark and difficult work of rescuing children from sex slavery is “through Jesus.” Throughout our conversation, he spoke about his personal convictions, his work with Operation Underground Railroad and Sound of Freedom.
