Sex is God’s idea. Too many people running around thinking God is anti-sex. No friend, He just knows it’s designed for far greater purposes than a quick fix or temporary fling.
God’s NOT anti-sex, but His ways are counter cultural.
And He knows that our passions are best expressed with parameters. And marriage creates the ultimate environment to experience sex in all of its fullness.
Sadly, so often young people go looking for the right answers in all the wrong places. We take our cues from pop culture, societal norms and mainstream media. When it comes to SEX – the truth is we should (and need to) talk about it. Not in a provocative, inappropriate or gimmicky way, but in truth, in honesty, in grace. In the right forum, tone and space.
Because every single day teenagers and young adults are bombarded with messages about sex that are actually detrimental, derogatory and devaluing. Sadly, porn is shaping a generation and it’s not for good.
So friends, let’s stop avoiding tough conversations and start having open ones. Ones that are bible based, that remove shame, stigma and awkwardness. Ones that teach the why behind the what and equip and empower a generation to make wise decisions, enjoying this incredible God given gift and building strong foundations for thriving relationships and futures!
I wrote this blog to simply highlight what the bible says about sex. Which if you’re a Christian should matter to you. And, well, if you’re not I’m just so glad you’re here!
For a deeper discussion around the topic check out, “Why I Waited For The Wedding Night. The Truth About Abstinence.”
“Is it a good thing to have sexual relations? Certainly – but only within a certain context. It’s good for a man to have a wife, and for a women to have a husband!”
1 Corinthians 7:1 (THE MESSAGE)
“There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much a spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.”
1 Corinthians 6:16-20 (THE MESSAGE)
“Your sex life will be blessed as you take joy and pleasure in the wife of your youth. Let her breasts be your satisfaction, and let her embrace intoxicate you at all times. Be continually delighted and ravished with her love!”
Proverbs 5:18 (TPT)
“Haven’t you read in your Bible that the Creator originally made man and woman for each other, male and female? And because of this, a man leaves father and mother and is firmly bonded to his wife, becoming one flesh—no longer two bodies but one.”
Matthew 19:4-12 (THE MESSAGE)
“Do not arouse and awaken love until the right time.”
Song of Solomon 8:4
“Aren’t you aware of the fact that when anyone sleeps with a prostitute he becomes a part of her, and she becomes a part of him? For it has been declared: The two become a single body.
But the one who joins himself to the Lord is mingled into one spirit with him. This is why you must keep running away from sexual immorality. For every other sin a person commits is external to the body, but immorality involves sinning against your own body.
Have you forgotten that your body is now the sacred temple of the Spirit of Holiness, who lives in you? You don’t belong to yourself any longer, for the gift of God, the Holy Spirit, lives inside your sanctuary. You were God’s expensive purchase, paid for with tears of blood,[d]so by all means, then, use your body to bring glory to God!”
1 Corinthians 6:16 (tpt)
“Can you build a fire in your lap and not burn your pants? Can you walk barefoot on hot coals
and not get blisters? It’s the same when you have sex with your neighbor’s wife: Touch her and you’ll pay for it. No excuses. Hunger is no excuse for a thief to steal; When he’s caught he has to pay it back, even if he has to put his whole house in hock.”
Proverbs 6:34 (THE MESSAGE)
“You’re addicted to thrills. What an empty life! The pursuit of pleasure is never satisfied.”
Proverbs 21:17 (the message)
“Don’t set the affections of your heart on this world or in loving the things of the world. The love of the Father and the love of the world are incompatible. For all that the world can offer us—the gratification of our flesh, the allurement of the things of the world, and the obsession with status and importance—none of these things come from the Father but from the world. This world and its desires are in the process of passing away, but those who love to do the will of God live forever.”
1 John 2:15-17 (TPT)
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Waiting to have sex until you’re married isn’t about just making it to the wedding night without sleeping together. Yeah, that’s a good thing, but it’s actually just the starting line to cultivating a life of loyalty (emotionally & sexually) and a healthy, strong and passionate relationship.
Self-control and integrity are JUST as important within marriage, as they are when you’re a dating couple trying to honour God in all aspects of your life because the truth is, you don’t just guard your heart before you’re married, you have to do that every day of your life. So, don’t just think “sexual purity” stops once you get to your wedding day. No friend, it’s a choice that you must choose over and over and over again. Because it was worth it then, and it’s worth it now.
